ECG for Diabetes: Essential Heart Evaluation

An Electrocardiogram, commonly known as an ECG test, is vital for diabetes heart evaluation. This test involves placing 12 leads on different parts of the body to achieve a standard 12 lead ECG. At our Advanced Diabetes Center in Borivali/Kandivali, we use three ECG machines, including the 12 lead GE MEDICAL SYSTEMS MAC 1200ST and two Maestros 12 lead ECG machines. The ECG test is essential for assessing the electrical activity of the heart, helping to identify abnormalities that could signal silent heart attacks, ongoing ischemia, or irregular cardiac rhythms. With a 90% accuracy rate, this test can effectively rule out normal cardiac status. Patients with diabetes are at a higher risk for cardiac issues, making routine ECG tests necessary every 4-6 months, particularly for diabetic patients or individuals exhibiting symptoms such as chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, or giddiness. Furthermore, ECG tests are conducted pre-operatively and after discharge from cardiac care, as they can reveal past heart attacks or ongoing myocardial infarctions. Timely ECG reporting and intervention can be lifesaving, especially for those at risk due to diabetes or other vascular diseases.
