PATHOLOGY TESTS
Medical diagnosis is based on accurate diagnostic methods. Towards this analysis of the blood is the most important. At ADVANCED DIABETES CENTER we have a pathology laboratory dedicated to doing all diabetes related blood tests taking care of authenticity and accuracy.
We have a hematology analyzer for doing complete blood counts. The peripheral smears are examined by experienced pathologists and occasional important peripheral smear examinations are done by Dr Jacob Thomas himself.
Biochemistry analyzer does all the biochemical tests like blood sugars, liver and renal function tests, HBA1c, electrolytes, uric acid test and other general and special tests. Since we have to treat patients ourselves we take care that the precision is maintained.
Other tests like HBSAG, HIV, HCV and other card tests are also done.AS well as urine analysis and urine ketones and urine and blood cultures.
Fever profile includes tests for malaria, dengue, typhoid, leptospirosis and other viral infections. These are very important nowadays as the incidence of these infective diseases is ever increasing.
There are many specialty tests nowadays. For which we have tied up with specialty laboratories. We personally monitor the reports done by specialty labs by having a continuous dialogue with the regarding patient’s clinical profile.
We use disposable syringes, needles every time. Aseptic precautions are taken while handing blood and body fluids.
Instructions for blood tests depends on the type of tests to be done
1) For most blood tests please come 8 hours or 12 hours fasting. Water can be had in small amounts.
2) Some tests may not require fasting
3) Some tests may have to be taken at specific timings and may have other special instructions.
4) Ask your doctor regarding specific instructions.
5) For lipid profile tests 12 hours fasting is required. And if possible 3 days prior to be on a fat and oil free diet.
6) For fasting sugars 8 hours fasting is needed Random sugar (RBS) can be done anytime of the day.HBA1c is a test which checks 3 month mean blood sugars. And can be done anytime of the day.Its is an important test for the assessment of overall blood sugar control in preceding 3 months.
7) Continous glucose monitoring is a test which records blood sugars every 15 min for 2 weeks . It can be performed any time during the dayc

INDICATIONS FOR STRESS TEST ARE

Ecg detects abnormalities of heart . it detects heart attacks or myocardial infarctions , and stable and ischemic heart disease . it also detects whether heart chambers are enlarged . and also for rhythm irregularities called cardiac arrhythmias.
Diabteics are prone to cardiac problems . In fact Diabetes is many times called a vascular disease. Hence ECG is doen routinely once every 4-6 months in a diabetic and also if patient complaints of chest pain , breathlessness, palpitations, breathlessness on exertion, giddiness , blackouts , syncope or near syncope . It is also done if Blood pressure is high or pre operatively for surgical fitness. It is performed post discharge of a cardiac patient.
ECG denotes whether there was an old heart attack or whether there is any ongoing attack. Timely reported ecg and prompt action taken can save many lives due to myocardial infarction.
